Welcome Center
Located near the project site, the HRBT Welcome Center helps turn complex engineering into an experience. Through colorful murals, historical exhibits, and interactive STEM activities, the community can learn about the innovation and technology behind the largest highway construction project in Virginia history.
At the Welcome Center, visitors can explore how the tunnels are being built, meet Mary the Tunnel Boring Machine and Katherine the Slurry Treatment Plant, and learn about the pioneering women Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson, who inspired the names of the project’s most essential equipment. Outside the building, a vibrant LOVE sign connects the site to Virginia’s statewide Loveworks, creating a family-friendly photo stop that celebrates regional pride.
The HRBT Welcome Center is open to the public on scheduled open house dates. Group visits, including school and community tours and presentations, can be arranged in advance.
