All Eyes On Mary’s Breakthrough

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, Virginia Secretary of Transportation W. Sheppard Miller, VDOT Commissioner Stephen Brich and HRTAC leadership were among the speakers and special guests as Mary The TBM arrived at the HRBT South Island after mining a twin tunnel.

Williamsburg Mayor Doug Pons, who chairs the Hampton Roads Transportation Accountability Commission (HRTAC), credits cooperation at all levels of government, the Hampton Roads region and HRTAC for improving the critical crossing. Upon completion, Pons said the expansion project will unlock gridlock and improve the quality of life for the region and visitors to the commonwealth.

“Ninety-two percent of the funding for this project is managed by HRTAC. Those are controlled resources right here in Hampton Roads. That 92% represent $3.7 billion,” according to Pons.
